Healthy Homemade Gummies (2 Ingredients!)
These Healthy Homemade Gummies are made with only 2 ingredients, have no added sugar, and your kids will love them!
Why You Will Love Healthy Homemade Gummies
You can obviously find LOTS of gummy candies at pretty much any store you walk into, but they are always SO full of sugar, dyes, and preservatives. I don’t deprive my kids of sweet treats, but I definitely limit them to special moments and try to find healthier alternatives when I’m able to. Unfortunately, there aren’t many healthier options when it comes to gummy candies. Until you make your own!
These cute little gummies are made with real fruit juice (no added sugar!), and gelatin. THAT’S IT! Just two ingredients, and they taste so fruity and delicious. Not to mention the health benefits of a good quality beef gelatin.
Health Benefits of Beef Gelatin
Gelatin is a protein that is derived from collagen. It contains amino acids, and has been shown to play a role in joint health, improve brain function, and improve the appearance of skin and hair. WOW, it does a lot for us.
Collagen is found everywhere in our bodies, so ingesting it from high quality animal sources has a huge impact on our health. Not only is it good for everything I mentioned above, but it is also amazing for gut health. It can improve gut integrity and digestive strength by helping to seal the lining of the intestines, thus letting your body absorb more nutrients.
And I don’t know about you, but if it’s going to help my skin glow and keep my joints feeling good, then I’M IN!
Ingredients for Healthy Gummies
- Beef Gelatin – I get my gelatin from NOW Foods because I trust the quality of their products. It gels up perfectly every single time.
- Fruit Juice – You can use any fruit you want, I like to make sure that I am using pure juice with no added sugar. There is already enough sugar in natural fruit juice as it is. For this recipe, I used apple juice and blueberry juice.
THAT’S IT! Just 2 ingredients!
How To Make Homemade Gummies
STEP 1 – Pour your desired flavor of juice into a small sauce pot over medium heat. Cover it with a lid and let it come up to a simmer (not quite a full boil).
STEP 2 – Once the juice is simmering, add the gelatin and whisk continuously until it is completely dissolved. Remove from the heat and gently pour the mixture into a silicone mold. You can use fun shaped gummy molds, or larger square shaped ones. You can also just pour it into a container with sides if you don’t have molds. You will just cut the molds yourself once they are firmed up.
STEP 3 – Carefully place the molds in the fridge for at least 2 hours so they can form a gel.
STEP 4 – Remove them from the molds (or cut them if you used a larger container), and enjoy!
How to Store Homemade Gummies
You will need to store homemade gummies in the refrigerator to help them keep their shape. Because of the minimal ingredient list, they will melt if left at room temperature. So just store them in an airtight container in the fridge!
What Tray Should I Use?
You can use fun and fancy shaped little molds, but you don’t have to! I have used the smaller shapes, but I also love using a regular ice cube silicone mold too. If you don’t have trays like this, don’t worry! You can use a glass dish with sides and cut out the gummies into squares.
