Creamy Maple Turmeric Oatmeal
On cold winter mornings, all I ever want for breakfast is something warm and comforting. And there is nothing better than oatmeal to warm you up, am I right?! I think so.
This is actually the first time I’ve ever put turmeric in my oats! I know, I’m behind on this trend. I’ve been seeing people put turmeric in their oats for a while now, I’ve just been too stubborn to deviate from my boring go-to recipe of cinnamon oats with lots of fruit toppings.
But I’m telling you, if you like turmeric, you will LOVE it in your oatmeal. It gives a really nice earthy (almost savory) flavor to an otherwise sweet breakfast. I wasn’t going for a completely savory oat breakfast, so I added in some maple syrup and homemade blackberry jam and OHMYGOSH, you guys. I love this combo, it gives just the right amount of sweetness, alongside the more savory turmeric.
And to make it even better, turmeric has a ridiculous amount of health benefits. It is super anti-inflammatory in the body, so you are starting off your morning in the most perfect way. Delicious AND healthy. Score.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup GF whole oats
- 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
- 1/2 tsp turmeric
- 1/4 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tbsp maple syrup
- Optional toppings: your favorite jam, pepitas, coconut chips, hemp seeds
Instructions
- Combine the oats, milk, turmeric, cinnamon, and maple syrup in a small saucepan and put it over medium heat.
- Let the oats cook for about 10 minutes, stirring often so that it doesn't boil over. If it starts to boil over, just turn the heat down a little bit.
- Once the oats reach your desired thickness, transfer it to a bowl, drizzle a little more maple and top it with all of your favorite toppings. (I topped mine with blackberry jam, coconut chips, hemp seeds, and pepitas)
Oooh, I’ve been experimenting with turmeric a lot lately- this looks yummy! 🙂
You can never go wrong with adding turmeric to breakfast!
I totally agree! 🙂
